> -able and -ible -able and -ible are both used to form adjectives. It is easy to confuse the spelling of words ending in these, and the best way to get them right is to memorize them, unless you have a good knowledge of Latin. Words ending in -ible are usually formed from Latin words ending in -ibilis, and some words ending in -able are formed from Latin words ending in -abilis. In addition, some words ending in -able are derived from French, and words formed from English words end in -able rather than -ible.
