> heading A word, phrase or sentence put at the top of a page, chapter, section, etc, of a book or other printed document. These are sometimes written with initial capital letters (except for articles or prepositions), as in "Annual Report", "Department Budget for the Year", "The Year Ahead", "What Went Wrong", "Company" Plans", "Trading Outlook Overseas", but this is a matter of taste or of house style of the company or organization involved. Some people prefer to use lower-case letters except for the first word, as in "Sales targets for the year", "A review of export markets", and "The way forward". Headings can be underlined or placed in italic type or bold type to highlight them on the page.
