Loose is an adjective meaning "not tight", as in "His clothes are loose now that he has lost weight", and "free, not confined", as in "The cows are loose". It is also a verb meaning "to undo", as in "loose the knot", or "set free", as in "loose the pack of hounds". Loosen means "to make less tight", as in "He has put on weight and so he has had to loosen his belt". Lose is a verb meaning "not to be able to find, to mislay", as in "I always lose one glove" and "They" may lose their way". Loose is pronounced loos, but lose is pronounced looz.
