Prey is a noun meaning "an animal or bird hunted and killed by another animal or bird", as in "The lion had its prey, a deer, in its mouth". It also means "a person who is exploited or harmed by another, a victim", as in "The old lady was easy prey for the con man". Prey is also a verb meaning "to hunt and kill as prey", as in "Eagles prey on small animals", and "to trouble greatly, to obsess", as in "His part in the crime preyed on his mind".
